Botox

For Frown Lines and Crow's Feet

Every time you laugh, smile or frown you create dynamic wrinkles.  They are caused by contraction of delicate underlying facial muscles and after many years become permanent.  Now thanks to Botox injections, these dynamic wrinkles can be dramatically softened.  Worry lines, frown lines, "crow's feet" and other dynamic wrinkles are all improved by the use of Botox injections.

How does Botox work?

Botox blocks the nerve impulses to the tiny facial muscles that cause these facial expression lines.  Botox relaxes the muscles and prevents or lessens their contraction.  After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles retain their ability to contract in a normal fashion.  Normal facial expression is unaffected, while "unhappy" muscle contractions are minimized or eliminated.

Will Botox injection cause me discomfort?

The Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center of San Diego has developed a more comfortable injection procedure.  Our Botox procedure is now performed with a dramatic decrease in patient discomfort.  Our patients who have received Botox elsewhere always comment on how easy our Botox injections are tolerated.

Is Botox safe?

Botox is very safe and has been used effectively since 1970.  Dr. Splinter began using Botox in 1979 to treat many ophthalmologic and neurological disorders.  Many thousands of patients receive Botox treatments each year for a multitude of conditions and its biggest use now is for revising the visible signs of aging.  It is quickly becoming a popular treatment for reversing some visible signs of aging.

How long does it last?

The duration of Botox varies from patient to patient, but the initial treatment usually lasts 2 to 4 months, each subsequent treatment lasts longer, and it is not unusual for a patient to go nine months or more between treatments.
